Christian Leaders Unite To Warn Against The Dangers Of Climate Change

Earlier this month, Pope Francis, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, and Archbishop Justin Welby of Canterbury, the heads of the Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Anglican churches respectively, released a joint statement on the dangers of climate change and the religious imperatives to act now towards a sustainable future.

While all three leaders have been very vocal in regards to climate change, this statement served as their first joint statement on sustainability. It was released in advance of the COP26 Climate Change Conference in Glasgow this coming November.

The stance reflects these Christian churches’ earlier statements on climate change, such as Pope Francis’ Laudato si’, often referred to the “Encyclical on Climate Change”, in 2015. Patriarch Bartholomew, the leader of the world’s Orthodox Christians, has often been referred to as the “
