Iceland has elected Europe’s first female majority parliament with 33 women voted into the 63-seat party in the election on Saturday – which saw the left-right coalition strengthen its majority.

The North Atlantic Island was ranked the most gender equal country in the world for the 12th year running by the World Economic Forum.

Rwanda, Cuba, and Nicaragua are the only three countries who have more women than men in parliament.
